Decorating Tips

  • Keep a box or file filled with inspiration! By collecting clippings from magazines, color chips and fabric swatches, you will begin to discover your personal style. Be sure to share your thoughts with your family, even the children, to get their ideas and feedback.
  • A new coat of paint will instantly freshen any room. Be daring with your use of color. Take your inspiration from fabrics or art you have in your room. Consider painting your moldings a lighter or darker tone or white to contrast with the wall color.
  • Lighting may be the single most important element in your room. Proper lighting can set a mood or allow you to perform a variety of activities, so be sure to have task, as well as mood lighting. Ideally, light should fall in a triangular pattern.
  • Use plants to bring warmth to your surroundings. Even if you don't have a green thumb or your room has little light, you can have a lush collection of greenery and blooms. Today's silk plants look so real you may have to touch them to be sure.
  • Showcase your collections and treasures. Rather than spread them around the room, group collections together for the greatest impact.
